The Chrome homepage and new tab page are both customizable, which means you can change them to suit your personal taste. The process is straightforward and will take less than a minute, but it’s helpful to know what the different options are before getting started. Also, remember that these changes will only apply to your Chrome browser on this device — they won’t affect other computers or devices connected to the same Google account.

From the Chrome menu, click Settings.

  • Click the Chrome menu button, located in the upper-right corner of your browser window.
  • Select Settings from the drop-down menu that appears.
  • Click the Settings icon (or button) on the page that opens up, which looks like a grid of nine squares with an arrow pointing up from each one.
  • In this example, you’re looking at “Appearance”–scroll down until you see Homepage or New Tab page under “On startup”.

  • Click on the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of Chrome’s window, then select Settings from that menu.
  • In Settings, click Show advanced settings at bottom (if it isn’t already selected).
  • Under ‘Privacy,’ click Content settings and then Manage exceptions under Personalized ads.

To change your home page and new tab page in Chrome, you can use the dropdown menu to choose a new tab page or homepage. If you don’t want to use the default options, there’s also an option for entering a location or shortcut after making a new tab.

To enter this field:

  • Tap Always Open To A Specific Location or Shortcut After Making A New Tab at the bottom of your screen.
  • Tap Enter A Location Or Shortcut In The Field Below on Samsung phones that run Android 9 Pie or later versions (like Galaxy S10).
