I want to create a new app for Denver RTD

Well…Denver RTD just released a new app not too long ago to make purchasing bus tickets easier and, yea I guess it does that, but the app is seriously lacking.

First of all, the app only allows you to purchase local day passes — meaning you have to purchase a ticket that is good for the whole day — which means more money! Now I know that its only $5.20 but hey…there are alot of times I don’t have that much okay. The struggle is real. There have been many days I’ve had to scrounge around for coin change just to afford a one way ticket. Some times I just need to get to my destination and then just figure out how I am going to get home later.

The next issue I have with the app is that you can’t save any addresses. The app has a built in trip planner feature where you can input your starting and ending locations along with travel preferences but I can’t save any of the routes. I use the bus to go back and forth to school, the gym, the store…I would love to chose choose my destination from previously saved or used locations. Each time I want to check the timing for bus routes, I have to re-type the address in each time. This can get annoying. Actually checking it, when you click the trip planner link in the app it just takes you to the RTD planner web page in the browser.

Is this me being lazy? maybe… maybe not.

There are many other small issues I have with this app but I believe the reason it doesn’t offer much is because its just a generic app through a third party that has just been branded. Either way, I don’t care for it and I think the city of Denver can do better.

So here it is — I plan to create a custom app and present it to someone, somehow, that is in charge or can get it in front of someone who is (I am sure this will be a bigger hurdle than creating the thing). I want my app to replace the JustRide app they are currently using, paying to use…whatever.
