Why Donald Trump is so Appealing
1. His children / family
You can say whatever you want about Donald Trump but you can’t deny that he raised his children well. His children are the definition of success. His children are all Ivy-League educated, all working (even though it’s for their Dad), all have healthy families of their own. You can just look at other rich families (hi Hilton!) and you can see spoiled brats and addicts. Not for Trump’s. No sex scandal, no addiction, no cash spending party sprees. All his children seem down-to-earth (with respect to their circumstances).
Yes, he has gone through divorces. But divorces are common in America. Lots of people can related to failed marriages. And they would admire Trump for pulling through that damage and still have fantastic relationship with his children.
For me, Ivanka Trump is Donald Trump’s winning card. She’s well spoken, relatable, and hard working. She could have had a career in modeling, like so many other wealthy, trust fund babies. But no, she decides to follow her father’s footsteps and work in a hard core, male dominated industry. (Granted, she does dabble in modeling and yes, she works for her father at a high ranking position. But again, so many other people in her circumstances don’t take advantage of their privileges). And have you looked at her family? Married to another handsome and rich guy and mother of 3 children. She has an “All-American” family — what most Americans want. The average voter would want someone who raised such a smart and classy woman to be in the Oval office.
People will argue you can say whatever about him or his business but his parenting is winning!
2. Reality TV Star
America is a nation of reality show with Kim Kardashian and Real Housewives dominating the airwaves. You would want the ideal voter to be educated, well-read …but the reality is the average voter is a couch potato watching TV mindlessly while eating fast food. Harsh? But true.
Donald Trump is a familiar face who has an empire of reality tv shows and also is a regular guest on lots of popular programs. For years, we’ve invited Donald Trump into our living room. That sense of familiarity creates trust. We feel like we know Donald Trump. Who wouldn’t want someone we “know” to be the next President of the United States?
Bonus point: He has experience in front of the camera & with the media.
3. Authenticity & Everyday Speech
Donald Trump speaks the dumbed down language that most voters could understand. The other candidates are too high brown and sophisticated. (Have you watched this Ted Cruz vs Donald Trump supporter video?).
Praises about Donald Trump have always been “He speaks like it is” or “He’s not like other politicians.”
All the bad things a politician could say…well Donald Trump has already said it.
For lots of voters, they would not think Donald Trump is racist or sexist. They would think “Well, he speaks his mind.”
Moreover, his unfiltered speech is relatable. Who hasn’t dropped some racist or sexist or whatever -ist bomb when with close friends.
I’m Asian and I have friends of all backgrounds and ethnicities. But I’ve said some stupid things in close circles. One of my best friends have called me “yellow” in the middle of a joke fest. He’s not racist. I’m not racist. It’s just human nature to say non-politically correct things from time to time.
Granted, Donald Trump says these things in front of millions of onlookers. But again, his everyday speech creates trust. People think he’s authentic. And again, authenticity creates trust.
4. He’s accessible
He’s available to the press 24/7 without crazy red tapes in between.
Anderson Cooper sums it best:
“It’s rare you talk to a politician without a huge entourage…He shows up, sits down. There’s nobody telling you to wrap it up after 10 minutes and he said….what’s on his mind, whether you agree with it or not.”
Here’s an example of his schedule:

Again, his accessibility and overexposure reach people and create trust. Don’t blame the media for covering him — he gives the media what his time. Other candidates seem to be so calculated whereas Trump seems spontaneous, easy-going, available, just like your next door’s neighbor.
5. No experience in Politics — Business Background
One of Trump’s motto is “He’s not like other candidates.” His lack of experience turns into his greatest strength. Furthermore, it brings a fresh air to the race. He’s applying the classic “Blue Ocean” technique. When other candidates look canned, he stands out.
His failures in business are also relatable to the mass. His stories show that he can stand up after defeat.
This is the classic “turning your obstacles into opportunities” story and that resonates with people.
6. Hope
Believe it or not, Donald Trump does represent the “American Dream.” If somehow, a person as inexperienced, hate-fueled, shallow as Donald Trump can become the President of the United States, then it truly shows that anything is possible in America. No matter where you are from, you can do what the f*** you want in America. And somehow, sadly but inadvertently, that’s damn inspiring.

My background:
I’m a millennial, twenty something Asian female. I would consider myself a democrat. I’ve been living in and out of the U.S. for the past 10 years, all through legal visas (student, work,…). I travel frequently and I believe the U.S. has the strictest immigration / visa system on earth. I don’t think Americans can start to even understand the scary, and often humiliating experience of interview for a simple tourist visa at the U.S. embassy. The officers are required to have a presumption that you want to stay in America and your job is to prove otherwise…
Anyways, I digress.
My point is I’m not of Donald Trump demographics but I understand his appeal.
America, you can do this. The world believes in you. You can do better than Donald Trump. Now that you know why he’s so popular. Take him seriously. And Beat Him.
