“Heat Sculpt” 20220410

Hello. I am Sumida.

I make things based on the concept of “Urushi x Samurai”.
(Urushi is Japanese lacquer)

Today’s episode is —
I continue with wax modeling.
I’m using a wax pen which is like a soldering iron that melts wax.
I use HAKKO’s MyPen Alpha.
The temperature can be changed, so it can be used for wax at a low temperature, or at a high temperature for soldering irons and wood burning.

I like the way it melts wax with heat for heaping and scraping, which I talked about last time, so I’m going to name it “heat engraving”.

I really like that it doesn’t produce shavings!
Why didn’t I think of doing this earlier?
I know why.
There are two kinds of people in the world.
People who make shapes by heaping and those who make shapes by scraping.
The former mainly uses soft materials such as clay, while the latter mainly uses hard materials.
Since I started sculpture from wood carving, I had a fixed concept that “a shape is made by scraping. I thought I was not good at “heaping up.
But when I tried it, I could manage it.
Don’t be afraid of not eating. Let’s give it a try anyway.

From this time on, I will make two videos of the same content, “a vertical image video within one minute” and “a horizontal image video without shortening”.
