With a number of safety features to accommodate, Extension Ladders are designed to be extremely versatile and suitable for a wide range of uses. These features include:

  • For maximum grip and security, there is an integrated stabilizer bar
  • The ladder is held in place by steel auto-locking clamps
  • Ladder stability is ensured by strong nylon straps that secure the ladder in a freestanding position
  • Climbers will have a better grip with ribbed, non-slip rungs
  • Each section of the ladder is fitted with rubber stoppers to prevent overextension
  • Each section of the extension ladder has contoured feet which provide a strong grip against walls when used as an extension ladder

However, the benefits of these safety features can only be fully effective if the ladder is being used and stored correctly. If you use or care for a combination ladder recklessly, it can be damaged or worn out, compromising your safety. This leads us to the second question we often get asked about combination ladders.

Is it safe to use a combination ladder?

If you want to make sure you’re using your combination ladder correctly, you should follow these steps:

1) Examining the surface of the ground

Whenever there are uneven or textured surfaces, you should use a combination ladder that can be set up at different levels. The ground must be free of debris or anything else that could cause the ladder to slip, such as water or oil. If possible, move the ladder to another location.

2) Know the weight limit of the ladder

Depending on the ladder, there is a maximum weight it can support. Don’t forget that it’s not just about the climber’s weight, but also about the tools being used up there. Overloading the Telescopic Ladder can cause an accident or even cause the ladder to collapse completely.

3) Reaching too high

When using ladders with extending sections, the upper section should be extended to allow the climber to reach higher. Ladder users shouldn’t stand on the top two rungs as this adversely affects their stability and balance. In order to maintain strong stability, you must make sure that your body is always positioned over the rungs and that you are not reaching out to one side of the ladder. If the desired area is located side-on, a combination ladder with an A-frame should be positioned to provide better reach while retaining strong stability.

Can combination ladders be used on stairs?

Ladders should be used with special care on uneven surfaces, such as those involving stairs. As such, ladders with special configurations designed to work in harmony with stairs are recommended.
