We’re about to enter the outdoor work season again. Gone are the rain and the cold (for the most part), and we’re ready to whip out our lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, and chainsaws to tackle those outdoor jobs we’ve put off until the good weather arrives. With over 70 years of experience in providing lightweight, sturdy Step Ladders, we can help you get the job done. In addition to power tools, you’ll probably need a ladder to reach those hard-to-reach jobs. We can help you here at Ladder Store Co. With over 70 years of experience, we can help you get the job done.

Having years of experience in the ladder industry, we’re pretty comfortable with the risks associated with ladder-related work — here are five of the biggest ones.

BEFORE GETTING STARTED

If you’re working outdoors with electrical equipment, you’ll want to make sure that the health risks to your health are as minimal as possible by taking a few safety precautions beforehand. Use a residual current device (RCD) if you’re working with equipment that’s connected to the mains. Electric shock can be prevented with this device which detects electrical faults and disconnects power before it can cause harm. It can be installed on the main switchboard (also known as a fuse box) or in the actual garden socket to protect against electric shock.

You should invest in these devices because if anything goes wrong they can potentially save your life. As a rule of thumb, make sure to check your RCD by using the test button, and look for faults if it trips.

MOWING THE LAWN

The summertime chore for many people in the UK is to mow their lawns. We know how it goes; your garden with Probat Platform Step Ladders is starting to look a bit wild and untamed after months of growth, so you turn to the lawnmower to help you get the garden back into shape.

Step Ladders

While you can’t argue with its usefulness, there are some things you need to remember when using your lawnmower so that you don’t wind up hurting yourself.

The cables, connections, and plugs should not be damaged when using a lawnmower. This can lead to exposed wires and electric shocks. The danger of cutting grass in wet conditions is greater because electricity and water do not mix. Plus, slipping and falling are more likely to occur when cutting the grass in wet conditions.

Don’t wear sandals (or shoes that aren’t designed to protect your feet) — most people prefer not to end up with short toes. Be sure to keep everyone inside when cutting the grass — they could harm themselves or you if they distracted you. This is particularly important for very young children. Platform Step Ladders can help you a lot.

Try and resist pulling your lawn mower backward — it is tempting to pull your mower backward from time to time but push it around the garden to keep it moving in your control. Walking forward and pushing the lawn mower prevents you from tripping while walking backward. Before you do anything such as clean grass blockages, unplug the lawn mower and wait until the blades have stopped rotating.
