The word Sangeet translates to ‘sung together’ from Sanskrit. ‘Gaun’, another word used to describe the event, means ‘songs’ or ‘to sing’ in Hindi. Traditionally celebrated in the Punjab regions of India, this ceremony has been adopted by many other regions as a form of celebration for the wedding to come.

The word sangeet is Sanskrit for” sung together.” A sangeet form is a traditional Punjabi and North Indian prewedding form involving lots of gleeful dancing and celebratory songs. According to Sen,” it is traditionally honored as a prewedding custom only in numerous corridor of North India. Historically, the Indian marriage tradition of a sangeet form was a womanish-only event that was organized by the ladies of the bridegroom and bachelor’s families to celebrate the bridegroom a many days before the main marriage form.

The word’ sangeet’ is synonymous with the word’ song.’ The form involves singing and dancing with the couple and their close family members and musketeers to celebrate the onset of their new trip together. While numerous families still follow the traditional ritual of singing folk songs and dancing with dhols to tease and celebrate the bridegroom, in recent times couples are also hosting the sangeet night together and performing on choreographed Bollywood songs with their stylish musketeers and family.”

Utmost ultramodern sangeet observances last for four to five hours. A long time ago a sangeet would occasionally last for multiple days, but over time the tradition boiled down to a one- day event so that all marriage events could fit within one week. Eventually, the duration of the sangeet form depends on how numerous guests are attending. Each guest may perform a cotillion so the time will add up snappily.

The last major function before the wedding is decoration with temporary henna (mehndi) tattoos. This is often blended with the sangeet ceremony. Mehndi artists are called to the houses of the boy and girl and apply mehendi to the palms of the female family members, groom and the hands and feet of the bride. A basket containing Bindi and bangles is handed around so girls can choose those that match the outfit they plan to wear to the wedding. The Mehendi ceremony takes place in the atmosphere of a party. The bride and other ladies get mehendi (henna designs) done, on their hands and feet (most ladies get it done only on their hands but the bride gets it done on both hands and feet). For the bride the mehendi is sent by the future Mother in Law, which is beautifully decorated.
