Taken (Book Review)

The trip of a lifetime turns into a fight to the death when six extreme athletes are TAKEN hostage by pirates off the coast of Africa. By the author of TORN.

Six crew members are toughing it out, trying to come together as a team to sail around the world on a grueling challenge for charity. Four are teen military veterans disabled in combat: They’re used to being pushed to the limit. But nothing could have prepared them for being kidnapped by the Lord’s Resistance Army. Suddenly, the trip of a lifetime turns into a dark journey into the African jungle. Taken hostage by a notorious warlord and his band of child soldiers, how will Rio, Ash, Marcus, Jen, Charis, and Izzy survive?

Just imagine that you are traveling on a boat and you are ambushed and held hostage by “pirates”!! This is what the book is about. Rio is the narrator she is the new recruit to sail with 4 ex-army soldiers on a trip to sail around South Africa going to the Indian Ocean for charity. The crew needs 2 able bodies in order to have sponsors, so they hired Rio in addition to the gorgeous assistant who is also the girlfriend of Ash who seems like he got the hots for Rio. Everything was going smoothly at first then the adventure of a lifetime turned into a nightmare when they were boarded by pirates.

This book is moderately violent. Well It makes the book exciting! The story is similar to the movie “Captain Philipp” starring tom hanks, in the movie they were also boarded and held hostage by Somalian pirates. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was it was only from one person’s point of view, it would be nice to read someone other than Rio narrates the whole experience. I mean it would be nice to hear from one of the soldiers on board and how they instantly think like a soldier in the time of distress. All in all its not bad.. If you’re a fan of advaneture-ish, pirate-ish books.. You would like this book.
