A Godly Woman
I grew up in a very conservative Christian home, I know all too well what the Bible Belt defines as a godly woman.
A godly woman submits and obey her husband.
A godly woman takes care of the kids and the house without complaint.
Is that what the holy book demands?
if you ask me, that illusion of a godly woman is dated and sexist.
It’s high time we revise a stale definition and update it to more modern realities.
As a spiritual woman who struggles with wrapping my mind around constant injustices towards women in the holy books written by men eons ago. It’s bad enough little girls have to hear how evil they are because some fictitious woman ate an apple long ago in a far away place, but it’s worse when normal biological responses such as labor pains could be attributed to some curse of a woman.
In the spirit of equal competition women have gain ground in every aspect of life including politics, business and education.
Almost every aspect of life, roles and responsibilities have changed except that of religion.
What does a 21st century godly woman look like ?
For the purpose of discussion being “godly” is the act of pleasing the creatress (side note — the word creatress does not exist in spell check or life).
A godly woman is a spiritual person seeking to act in accordance to what her deity would require of her.
I do not and cannot believe for one second that a supreme deity would create one person for sole purpose of serving another person. There is a balance to life that most of the world’s current holy books have failed to recognize.
It seems to me that an omnipotent creator would place equal importance for men and women to reach new intellectual heights and understandings to lead us into the future.
With this destination in mind, a godly woman should educate herself as much as possible, operating without social or political restraints.
With nothing to hold her back she must never submit to the will of any HUman just because they require it.
A godly woman should expect shared responsibilities both inside and outside of the house.
A godly woman should be quick to speak against sexism and never tolerate an abusive HUman to abuse her or her children physically, sexually, emotionally or mentally.
A godly woman should be in full control of her body, including her sexuality and reproductive rights.
A godly woman should help others when it is within her power.
A godly woman should be perfect blend of compassion, counsel and love.
A godly woman should accomplish everything she desires, reach as far possible without guilt for becoming successful.
A godly woman should manage her own finances, own property and run businesses with pride.
A godly woman should refuse to succumb to the dated and sexist teaching of the holy books.
A godly woman is a quick-thinking gal that never shys away from telling Bible-thumpers and Koran-pushers that she is her own woman.
Surely, this is what a divine creator would expect from us right?
Anything less would be a sin.
