WhatsApp Messenger is a free, cross-platform, end-to-end encrypted instant messaging app available for Android and other smartphones. WhatsApp, was incorporated in 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum, both former employees of Yahoo!. WhatsApp Inc., based in Mountain View, California.

The Product Roadmap for WhatsApp from 2009 →till date, can look as :

2009 →2010 : To build an application that lets your friends and other contacts know what you’re up to. Just kept the basic “text only” status functionality in WhatsApp.

2010 →2011 : WhatApp messenger for BlackBerry available.

2011 →2012 : Group Chat, If you have an iPhone, BlackBerry or Android phone, simply upgrade to version 2.6 of our software to enjoy group chat.

2012 →2013 : “Share Location” functionality, Make a Group Icon and Info. Once you enter Group Info, simply tap or click on the Group Icon to set it or change it.

2013 →2014 : Introducing Voice Messages.

2014 →2015 : Introducing WhatsApp Web → https://web.whatsapp.com

2015 →2016 : WhatsApp for free, no subscription charges.

2016 →2017 : End to End encryption for security, Desktop App, Camera Feature integration and Video calling.

2017 →till date : WhatsApp Status, reinventing the status feature to rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.

Just like eight years ago..they first started WhatsApp, this new and improved status feature will lets your friends and other contacts know what you’re up to.
