I try to do exactly the same — when I catch myself being distracted on the phone, I force myself to bring my attention back. Similarly, when my parents talk to me while doing something else, it gets to me—which only emphasizes the importance for me to pay more attention, because I feel the pain of not getting the implicitly promised attention of interacting!
