How did treaties affect the native people of North America during the first settlements and how do they still affect them now?
As students, we have constantly learned in social studies about the treaties benefiting European settlement, but rarely do we hear about the negative affects on the native people of North America. We feel as though the Native American’s perspective on the treaties has not necessarily been wrong, but has almost been completely left out. Our first source shows the affects territory treaties had. We think it is relevant because it is a good visual for students. The art by Robert Lindneux is a painting of the Trail of Tears which depicts the suffering of native people of North America as they were forced out of their land. The last two sources give two different perspectives on the same treaty. One from the native people of North America and one from President Andrew Jackson.
