The Symbol of Poland Fighting (Polska Walcząca) Today — do we use it right?
On the 1st of August Poland celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. On that day (and now still) the internet was (and still is) overflowing with news and other articles regarding the Warsaw uprising and its commemoration. Every year we pay tribute to the heroes who fought for the freedom of Warsaw and Poland during World War II. If you look at the articles, photos, or any other type of online content regarding this event, you will have stumbled upon this symbol:
If you (just like me) are Polish, or have been to Poland during this time, or read about Poland, you know that this symbol is associated with paying tribute to our people (civil and soldiers alike) who fought for our freedom. Nothing more, nothing less. When we see this symbol, our hearts get filled with gratefulness and pride towards the people that died for the sake of future generations. Or so it has been until the end of July 2019.
It is extremely hard for me to even think back to that time of the year. Or to 2018. Before I move on, I’d like to emphasize that I love my country to bits.
