A big problem now is that we're hesitant to converse with each other (especially if we know the other person has opposing beliefs). So many topics have become so polarized that it's often safer not to broach "hot-button issues." We're all afraid of losing friends (and maybe worse), so we usually stick with the folks we agree with, which is understandable but problematic. We could all benefit from probing other's beliefs and trying to understand where they are coming from, even if we disagree with their stance. This isn't easy to do, though, especially if it's something you firmly believe against.
