I think this article is confusing educators with babysitters.

A school’s function is to educate the children.. not be a day care….. After school programs funded by the feds are done on a grant basis and if you don’t apply and meet the gratd requirements you don’t get the money.. While I agree that schools need to be more flexible… I don’t agree with the poster commenting about parents need to think before divorce…etc.. my children’s father died… I had to go to work to support the ones still at home. And yes, I make the crazy scheduling work somehow! Teachers (Chicago Union ones are left out of this…) for the most part work very long days, well after the bell rings and deserve more money in their pockets! (not the unions!)
