Snapchat’s discoverability looks more like this:
Why I’m leaving Snapchat and so are all your friends
Owen Williams

When you think of Snapchat it’s always been about the ephemeral and raw word of mouth experience of finding new users. While Instagram certainly has a massive distribution advantage I think Snap sees its advantage of s more engaged/active core user base that doesn’t “dilute” their snap streams with frivolous recommendations. One of the core reasons I stopped using Instagram was my feed became so overpopulated with people it was hard to surface the updates i really wanted (yes I’m aware they have improved the relevance algorithms but I’ve not used the product since mid 2015). The ability to keep a high quality feed that is very tailored may in fact prove to be more monetizable than a larger feed with more degrees of real life separation.
