Hi, I’m Mackenzie Lammers and This is How I work
Hello. My name is Mackenzie Lammers. I’m a junior here at UMD in the Labovitz School of Business and Economics. Currently, I am employed at TJ Maxx as a cashier. One word to describe how I work is diligent.
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? Why?
My world would not be complete without Facebook! I have family scattered all around the world, so Facebook is a easy way for us to constantly catch up with each other. Being able to see my family members post pictures, videos, and links to what they are doing keeps me up to date and involved with my extended family. Also, Facebook Messenger is a convenient way for us to communicate at all times.
What’s your best time-saving shortcut/life hack?
This is a very random life hack I just came across a few months ago. If you just want the whites of an egg this is for you. Crack the whole egg into a bowl, and then find an empty plastic water bottle and remove the lid. Put the mouth of the water bottle to the yolk, and squeeze the water bottle. It will suck up the yolk and leave you with the egg white!
And you are reusing a plastic water bottle:)
What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What’s your secret?
One thing I am kind of ashamed to admit, but also proud to say is that I can chug a Venti Starbucks coffee in about 2 minutes. What can I say, I am a caffeine addict!

What do you listen to while you work?
When I’m at work I have to have upbeat music playing that I can sing along too. Knowing the lyrics is always a must. Having positive music playing gives me the right vibes I need so I can help all my customers in the most amazing way possible.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Just let it roll off your back.” Ann Schmidt
My mom is the queen at giving advice but the one that resinates with me the most is “Just let it roll off your back.” Being a girl comes with lots of drama, boy troubles, and trying to fit in. Anytime I would cry to my mom about something happening with my friends, or a boy being mean to me she always told me “just let it roll off your back.” When I was a kid I would think easy for her to say she’s not the one going through it. But as I’ve gotten older and had to deal with rude costumers, or mean people on social media I have used her advice. Letting it roll off my back has forced me to take the high road many times, and ultimately made me a better person.
Where do you find inspiration and new ideas?
Social media influencers are my go to when it comes to looking for new inspirations, whether its about fashion or the newest life hack. I follow many blog posts about fashion, and they tell me what styles are about to come back in, or what color eyeshadow to wear every season.
What’s your favorite quote?
“Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. “- Albert Einstein
Growing up I struggled in middle school. I always beat for needing tutors, telling myself saying I was stupid for needing the extra help, until one day I came across this quote. It taught me that everyone learns at different paces, and just because it takes me longer than other to get there does not mean I am stupid. I am a genius, who just needs more time.
