Actually in ETH and BTC, each node must contain the totality of the blockchain, resulting in the impossibility for the lambda user to host a hard wallet (node) on his desktop computer.
A solution would be to have segmentable blockchain, to allow nodes only to host the last segments (50 lasts for example) of blocks. In order to have always resilient, trustable full blockchain available nodes can be rewarded for hosting segments of the blockchain that others don’t want to store. Rewards come proportionnaly to the rareness of the block segment. HEAT devs called it PoP (proof of presence), I think it’s a cool idea.
This is what HEAT platform is willing to implement next year.
