The 175mm was phased out in the 1970’s. The 8" (203mm) had been phased out of the Active army by the late 1980s early 1990s and Schwarzkopf asked for Reserve and National Guard 8" units to deploy as the MLRS, which replaced the 8" could not kill a hard target with its DPICM warhead.
