FEELINGS. Ugh…

Emotional Worker are people who hold postitions in jobs that call for public service or health care.

This topic hits me right at home. I work at a grocery store where I need to be able to keep a straight and smiling face under pressure. My employers hired me because I was able to keep a straight face and work well under pressure. Which is probably one of the most important things when working my job. I helped a cancer patient once and she decided to make a joke about cancer when I asked her how her day was. And even though I felt bad, all I could do was laugh. This is an example of surface acting. Where you just paste on a smile and respond as you are told to.

The opposite of it is deep acting. With some of my closest friends we talk about anything and everything together even our deepest feelings. Even though sometimes it’s unrelateable or something that we can’t understand we still empathize with one another. This is arguably more stressful on a person because it can cause emotional distress for them as well.
