I read an article named “What Does ‘American’ Actually Mean?” and it discussed the meaning of America. What I took from it was that, America is really self-centered when we call ourselves American, we do not think about the other half of Americans for example, South America. When we (most United States natives) hear the term American we automatically think of United States and that you had to have been born in the US to be considered American. It made me think of how self-centered us U.S natives are, because we placed ownership on a name that is not only just labeling us but a whole other continent.

Another paragraph I took the time to read and discussed in class was named “The Changing Demographics of America” talked about the growth in our population. I think the growth in our population is going to have a lot to do with upward mobility which was discussed in class. Upward mobility is the rise and change in social classes. I think this article relates to how the upward mobility came about and how it will continue to grow, because immigrants coming over to the US are taking many jobs and becoming CEOs.
