What is microblading : Everything you need to know.
Human faces are relatively flat, Evolution has worn away the jutting jaw and the bulging brow ridge. Fortunately, we still have one reliable landmark: the eyebrow. According to behavioral neuroscientists eyebrows are crucial to facial identity — they’re at least as important as your eyes, if not more so. Eyebrows pop out against the backdrop of your face — and for that reason not only identify who you are but how you’re feeling.
When your eyebrows are over plucked, sparse, very light, undefined, too low or too high, you may need a little help in shaping them so that your most defining feature brings out your natural beauty and the image you want to project. One of the options we provide our clients at Langaro Wellness Center who need to enhance their eyebrows, is microblading — a process during which a small blade dipped in colour pigment is used to make thin hair like strokes, one by one.
The hair like strokes that is applied to your brows during microblading gives it a full, natural and defined look. During the microblading process a colour pigment that complements your hair and skin tone is applied to the upper layers of your skin. The effects are semi permanent and allows you to get rid of the eyebrow pencil altogether. Whereas permanent makeup uses needles to push ink 7 layers deep into the skin, microblading is a much kinder process that only targets 3 layers of skin.
The therapist use a featherlight touch to apply the pigment with handheld pen containing small blades dipped in pigment. Pain thresholds differ from person to person, but a topical numbing cream used before and during the process will reduce pain to less than threading. Microblading is a two-step process, consisting of initial procedure and a touch up to be completed 6 weeks after.
Frequently asked questions about microblading
How should I prepare for a microblading session?
One Month — Avoid products such as Retinol and other Vitamin A derivatives. It can make your skin more sensitive and increase your healing time
Two Days Before — Anti-inflammatories such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen canincrease the risk of bleeding or facial rashes as a result of the procedures. The same applies to alcohol. Also avoid doing things that puts your face and particularly your eyebrows under stress, such as excessive makeup or sun exposure.
Does it hurt?
Before we begin the procedure, a topical numbing cream is applied to the brow area to minimize the pain. Some people might feel no discomfort at all, while others might describe it as not quite painful enough to say “ouch,” but close. Redness and swelling can occur afterwards, which is quite normal. You may feel something similar to a light sunburn. If you ever had your ears pierced without crying, you more than tough enough to stand microblading.
How long does it last?
Microblading pigment is not implanted deep into the skin as is the case with permanent makeup, and it will fade over time. Microblading typically lasts 1–3 years. To maintain a fresh look, a touch up is suggested every 12–18 months or let it fade over time. The benefit of semi permanent brows is that both faces and trends change over the years, and you don’t have to be stuck with the same brows.
