Statement of Departure from New Mexico College Republicans State Leadership

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 10, 2016

To whom it may concern,

After the past half year working tirelessly to rebuild, rebrand, and restructure the New Mexico College Republicans it is with a heavy heart that I formally announce my departure from the New Mexico Federation of College Republicans (NMCR) as Co-Chairman.

This resignation roughly coincides with the decision by NMCR to endorse Gary Johnson, a natural extension of their previous personal biases and as the Former Co-Chairman of the organization I can say it does not reflect the views of the organization as a whole and does not fulfill, and defies the duties of the leadership of the organization. Not only did I support Donald Trump publicly in my role, I did my best to support him privately even though I have had my disagreements with the candidate. The system has to be upheld.

Throughout the duration of my service I supported and advocated on behalf of all Republicans running for elected office, but I was the sole supporter and advocate of Donald Trump on the NMCR state board. My fulfillment of my duty as a College Republican by supporting Donald Trump was constantly met with resistance from the NMCR statewide board.

While I did begin this primary process as a Never Trump campaigner, I understood that my role as NMCR Co-chairman was not only to work to elect all Republicans to office but to set an example for College Republicans both within the state of New Mexico and nationwide. I cannot say that my fellow officers shared such a view. As such, when Donald Trump became the nominee of our Party, I endorsed him and have worked unwaveringly to elect him as President of the United States.

When the NMCR endorsed Gary Johnson for President, they not only violated the College Republican charter by endorsing a non-Republican, they forsook the organization that has given me so much. I will continue to support our nominee Donald J. Trump because leadership transcends title.

While I may no longer inhabit my statewide leadership position, I will continue to volunteer as both a young conservative and a College Republican to elect Republicans from the top to the bottom of our ticket.

In Freedom,

Langston G. Bowens
Former Co-Chairman
New Mexico College Republicans
