The Chestnut-breasted Partridge (Arborophila mandellii) and the Rufous-necked Hornbill (Aceros nipalensis) are two fascinating bird species found in Bhutan.

Chestnut-breasted Partridge:
The Chestnut-breasted Partridge is a beautiful and elusive bird belonging to the pheasant family. It is known for its chestnut-colored breast and intricate patterns on its feathers. This species is native to the eastern Himalayas and can be found in the forested regions of Bhutan. The partridge prefers dense undergrowth and bamboo thickets in high-altitude forests. Due to its shy nature and habitat preferences, it can be challenging to spot, making it a sought-after species for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.

Rufous-necked Hornbill:
The Rufous-necked Hornbill is a striking bird with vibrant plumage and a large, curved bill. It is one of the several hornbill species found in Bhutan. This species is identified by its rufous (reddish-brown) neck, black and white body, and bright yellow-orange bill and casque (a helmet-like structure on the bill). The Rufous-necked Hornbill is typically found in the forested hills and mountains of Bhutan, where it feeds on fruits, small animals, and insects. It plays an essential role in seed dispersal, contributing to the ecological balance of the forest ecosystem.

Both the Chestnut-breasted Partridge and the Rufous-necked Hornbill are examples of the rich avian biodiversity found in Bhutan. Bhutan’s commitment to conservation and sustainable practices has helped protect these and other bird species within its pristine habitats. Birdwatching and ecotourism are popular activities for visitors who want to experience the diverse and unique birdlife that Bhutan has to offer.
