Finding My Interest Within Cyber Security
A blog about Cyber Security related jobs and topics I’m interested in.

My Ideal Cyber Security Related Jobs:

Information Technology Specialist(IT Specialist):
One choice of Cyber Security related jobs that interest me is being an IT Specialist. IT specialist must have knowledge on almost every aspect of computers, including Cyber Security.
I’m interested in this kind of job because it’s like you are the person who just knows almost everything about computers. You know about the hardware, coding, security, etc… I liked the idea of having all that knowledge because it makes me feel like I have power. Knowing a lot of things that others don’t, while you continue to learn even more. The great part about it is that you are making a good amount of money thanks to all that knowledge.
Most companies and businesses looking for people in this field require the worker to have a High School Diploma or a GED, while some may want at least 2–4 years of college experience. They also want them to have about 4 to 9 years of experience in Information Technology. That’s a lot of experience…

The final requirement is usually the documentation of their A+ cert, Network+ cert, Security+ cert, or CISSP. These are certification you get for passing the corresponding tests. Don’t be mistaken, it’s not easy or cheap to get these kinds of certifications. The A+ cert test cost $400 each test, and there 2 test you need to pass, YIKES!

Security Analyst:
My second choice of Cyber Security related jobs that interest me is being an Security Analyst. It’s more like the job you expect to get when you enter the field of Cyber Security.
The reason why it interests me is because it involves penetration testing. I’ve stated this in a blog before, but I prefer to be on the attacking side, then the defending side of Cyber Security. Just because I like attacking, does not mean that I am not helping to defend as well. My interest in penetration testing is making me happy, while also helping improve the security of others. It’s a win-win scenario.
One qualification for this job is having a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in computer science, engineering or related field, which can be substituted with years of experience within that field. Another qualification is having 3+ years in IT and/or information security. You must have a lot of experience and a good understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking. Of course, you need to have good communication and organization skills as well.
This job may be harder to get than I thought…
Cyber Security Related Topics I’m Interested In:

Cryptocurrency:
One Cyber Security related topic that intrigues me is Cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is a different kind of way that money can be used and stored, except it’s all digital. Some examples of Cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Blockchain, and many more. There are websites that people use to store and access all their Cryptocurrency. Some stores online and in real life accept Cryptocurrency(mainly bitcoin), but majority of places still don’t.
The way people can get Cryptocurrency is by mining it with special software. You basically use your graphics card to answer very complex and long math equations, and you are rewarded Cryptocurrency in return for it. Some people just buy it from others with cash. Each Cryptocurrency type goes for different prices, and the prices of them fluctuate a lot.

Cryptocurrency is interesting to me because I actually wanted to become a Bitcoin miner before. I really like the idea of investing money in equipment to earn even more money back later on. I want to use this as my way of investing money. Some people like investing in stocks, but I rather invest my money in Cryptocurrency.
I want to learn about how the idea of Cryptocurrency was made and how is it functioning? What I mean is that I want to know how and why people are just able to earn money from answering complex math problems with their computers? Where is that money coming from? If possible, I would like to know if the idea of mining Cryptocurrency is still going to be viable in the future, since I want to eventually invest in it.
Penetration Testing companies:

Another Cyber Security related topic that intrigues me are Penetration Testing companies. These are companies that specialize in penetration testing. They use the Cyber Security knowledge to try and hack into companies/businesses systems and networks to find any kinds of vulnerabilities. They are essential when it comes to improving security.
The reason this topic interest me is because I really like the idea of hacking. I stated this already in this blog, but I want to use my knowledge of Cyber Security for hacking. It’s not for my own personal gain though, it’s to help improve the security of others. It’s just so great that I can make a living off doing things that I like, while also improving the security of others.
I would like to go more in depth on how these kinds of companies run. Do they go online and look for companies, or do companies come and look for them? What kind of tools do they use to do Penetration test? Are there special groups within the company that are assign tasks that best fit them? So many questions that I’m hoping to learn more about in the future.
