Canaima: Magical and unique

We all need the opportunity to discover new places, especially if we have an adventurous spirit, we are thirsty for adrenaline and new experiences in our quest to find the best adventure travel experience. It doesn’t matter if you travel alone, with your family or with your partner: Canaima is one of the best places in the world to explore.

The basics

Canaima is located in the south of Venezuela, South America. To get there you have to get a flight from Caracas to Puerto Ordaz, or to Ciudad Bolívar, this is because there are no direct flights to Canaima.

It’s a good idea to get a package tour, because this will give you a complete experience to enjoy this magical place (including accommodation, meals, transportation) and the most important part: tours to the Angel falls, the indigenous communities, the tepuis, (amazing flat-topped mountains) and many more waterfalls.

Canaima is small village, perfect for those who seek contact with raw and wild nature: this is the jungle and this place doesn’t have roads, so you will have to get around using canoes that are called curiaras.

The Angel Falls

One of the main attractions of this adventure travel is going to Angel Falls: the highest waterfall in the world.

You can get there traveling through the Churún river to get to a lookout point where you can enjoy an amazing view of the falls. Or, if you want to, you can carry on to the natural pool that is under this unique cascade.

You can also go hiking, which is a 60–90 minute walk at least, so you need to be in a good shape if you want to get there on foot.

Gran Sabana

You can also explore this amazing landscape, where you will be able to see a lot of tepuis and the villages of the locals. You can take expeditions to the jungle from this point and you can go hiking through the area with the local guides.

Some tips

Don’t forget to take long sleeved clothes, trousers, warm clothes for the night and a lot of insect repellant on your adventure travel to Canaima: you will find mosquitos everywhere in Canaima.

Take your best walking boots with you, a backpack and don’t forget to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.
