For some reason Americans believe a general education through high-school is the only way to go. Students leaving high-school fall into two categories; College bound or Qualified hamburger flipper.
There should be 3 types of high school.
- General education
- Skilled Trade (including software/hardware programming)
- College preparatory
Some athletes (not all) and those with no aptitude for college or skilled trade would attend general education.
The skilled trade student comes out of high-school at a journeyman level.
This would allow college bound students to skip all the 101 and prerequisite courses and allow them to study their specific major/minor degrees.
This system is much fairer to the students. Subjects would be taught at their level of aptitude instead of holding back some and going over the head of others.
None of these school would prevent someone from attending university.
