In the 1940’s, Albert Einstein called it the “predatory phase of capitalism”. Currently, 51% of our discretionary spending goes to the Pentagon. Imagine if we chose to spend those dollars on universal healthcare, free college education, clean energy and public infrastructure.

Let me get this straight. Defense spending is “discretionary”? of the total 2017 budget, the Pentagon is slated to get 13%. While health and human services, SSA and the VA get a combined 53%. While things that would really make a difference like Transportation (highway funding) and infrastructure spending get a whole 1.6%. If we have any of our priorities wrong, it’s that we spend way to much on welfare issues and not enough important infrastructure spending.

You play with words like “discretionary” as if we could just send our military home and everything would be A-OK.

If we took just 1% from all of each of the above agencies and re-routed it to infrastructure spending, our country’s economy would explode.
