The Business Model: Recent developments and future research

Christoph Zott and Raphael Amit are considered, to some extent, the gurus on business models. Starting in 2000, they began the process of taking a look at them for purposes of understanding how business models were different than conventional business analysis which dealt primarily with strategic management on the one side or organizational management on the on the other side.

Out of that developed an entire focus on business models and how business models operate. And, as you can tell, they did a number of different studies over the years. This particular article, written in 2011, provided a study of business model literature up to that point for the purpose of determining what we had learned about them and how the different silos of scholarship could be combined to better articulate what business models actually are.

The PowerPoint you’ll see attached was submitted by a colleague and me as coursework for our Doctorate in Business Administration program we are doing at the University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
