The next time I was up for a promotion, I asked for the option to work from home at any time I wanted. I still made the same money, but I only worked four days with the option to work from home. Compared to a traditional promotion, I negotiated more freedom.

Wow. I didn’t even realize it, but this is pretty much what happened with me. Just like you explained, I also slowly transitioned over the years to working on 100% on my own terms.

Now, I’ve gained the freedom to prioritize what I do and when I do it. Being able to choose and say, “Today’s going to be a VR day,” versus, “Today’s a day for my clients,” is such an amazing bit of freedom.
