They told us knowledge is power
To have any form of control we needed education
And so we went on a 24 year long journey seeking knowledge
For some, it took a bit longer
With blood, tears and sweat, we bagged numerous prestigious degrees with matching gown and hats.

When we came back for the power
They told us we needed some money
Our degrees were not worth the papers they’re written on without some fiat
We went back without argument and toiled for money, even had to serve at the tables of those we left behind to go to school.

When we got some money
We went back after another 4 decades of work
And that was when we found out they never knew where real power was
They used us and took advantage of our youth and poise to search for power
Here we are, the old and use to be young
Too tired to fight
Too frail to ask for the years back

And so the cycle continues
A new generation is coming behind us
And they will search for power too
Using our inferred experience as guiding light
And we will lead them down the same path
They led us
Hoping the same effort turn out a different result
