See part 1 for a far-from-exhaustive overview on how to plan a remote workshop or meeting.

When I decided to break this post into two parts, I thought the second would dive deep into specific tips and tools. I was reminded that some of my favorite (but not free) tools provide valuable resources for remote facilitation and I could share those rather than re-iterate.

Free Resources from Not-So-Free Tools

  • MURAL: This fantastic visual collaboration tool also offers a “definitive” guide I was lucky to devour when it launched mid-2018. They also have useful templates that include various canvases, blueprints, and icebreakers.
  • Miro: I remember when this product was called Realtimeboard which I found less impressive back then but is an incredible tool (with much sexier branding) now. They offer an Academy that walks you through use cases and also provide a rich library of templates for activities.
  • Zoom: I hadn’t thought to look at this video conferencing tool’s website for tips but you can learn how to use Zoom like a pro and this just-released “Best Practices for Hosting a Digital Event.”
