The Lonely Road

I’ve slacked on writing, i know. Lots has happened since i last wrote, but this blog isnt about writing about every single up and down, it’s more about the themes that run throughout.

And speaking of themes that run throughout, one has been omnipresent. Loneliness.

We recently went through what would appear to be a very “glamorous” process, something that outsiders will look at in 6 months time and be amazed at the level of glamour involved — but, as the quotations suggest, it was anything but. This whole journey is anything but.

I’ve pondered the philosophical meaning behind the loneliness and my prevailing belief is that loneliness is just the price you pay for membership to the club.

And i’m far from the only one who is paying the price. A simple Google search of “entrepreneurship loneliness” shows over 6.6 million hits, with page after page of blogs exactly like this one from those in the eye of the storm.

Perhaps the loneliness is particularly noticeable to me after coming from a fairly tight knit company with a strong culture. Or perhaps not.

While carrying this burden doesnt materially change anything in my life, it’s a powerful reminder that this is one of many reasons why the fruits of labour in this trade can be a gold rush. And with each passing day, i’m more in awe of the prospectors who stick it out and find gold at the end of it.
