For those of us that grew up watching Three’s Company, I’m certain this gave you a good chuckle! I was watching this episode the other night and laughed out loud!
Then it hit me…how many times have misunderstandings not been so funny and have caused hurt feelings, broken life-long friendships, needless arguments, hostility, sadness, depression, anger, jealousy, and/or resentment?
Lack of communication is the root of it all. I have learned many lessons over the years (but mainly in the last few) that if we do not communicate and truly seek to understand, we will suffer in needless ways.
We will not always see eye-to-eye with our friends, family, or co-workers, but if we are not up-front, transparent, and actively seek to understand, then what is the point?
I have learned it’s best to say what I feel. Always. I don’t hold back. I never want to regret NOT saying something. Some may not appreciate this, but at least I can leave a conversation feeling as if I laid it all on the line. But most importantly, I encourage others to do the same, and actively listen to them.
