Separating children from their mothers is one of the most inhumane acts that any person can commit. But that is exactly what the Trump administration is considering, why? Well their reasoning behind it is that they believe that it will deter people from coming across the border into the United States. Just having the thought of doing something like that takes away the humanity from this administration.
The war on immigrants that Trump is waging is a kick to the gut of America. The hard work of immigrants built this country, Irish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Mexican, etc.… That fact is something that we as a country like to forget when we are in desperate times, we need to find a “bad” guy to blame for our struggles and failures. It is a side of America that seems to always show its nasty face when we need each other. This time around Trump showed up and stirred the pot that was brewing and ready to boil over, he was an opportunist who saw the division and capitalized on it. Not only does that make him a person with a strategy, but the fact that he could exploit that is scary.
Now that he is President he needs to fulfill the bigoted promises he made during his presidential campaign. He needs to show his supporters that he is not all talk, and Bannon being next to him pushing forward does not help one bit. We saw glimpses of that persistence with his Muslim ban that was struck down by the courts for being racist and over the top, but he insisted that it was the right thing to do. Now that he is being shut down left and right he needs to have a common enemy with his supporters, immigrants!
Before the scandals that plagued him this week you did not hear very much about his travel ban, but now that he is feeling the pressure due to his connections to Russia he feels like it’s time to lash out on that common enemy and sign a new executive order that will single them out and make his supporters happy. He is planning to sign the executive order on Monday and once again create chaos around the world.
A great example of his draconian immigration policies is the case of Daniela Vargas. She is a young Dreamer who recently had her dad deported due to the new immigration policies. When she found the courage to speak out against these new policies in front of the press, ICE agents were waiting for her and arrested her after the press conference. They were stalking her like an animal, like if it was a game to see how many immigrants they can catch. Not only is that frightening but is a sign of what’s to come. We as a community need to come together and help each other out, inform the members of our community that are scared, of their rights. We can help each other get through this.
