Thanks for your question, Sumayya. I’ve added the words “editor’s note” to clarify it was added in the editing process. We always try to verify the things our sources tell us, and that applies to everyone, even people we’re sympathetic to. In this case, we couldn’t independently confirm her brother’s involvement in the protest. The question of his participation is significant enough, given the controversy surrounding that massacre, that we felt obliged to tell our readers what we know and don’t know. We have duties to our readers and our subjects, and I think we represented both fairly in this case. —Ben Wolford, editor
