I also find it true that the less I'm in shopping-focused places, the less I spend. If I plan one big grocery shopping trip, I spend less than if I go to the store more often. Etc.

I like your idea of keeping a list of what we want and then reviewing it later. I think this would eliminate a lot of impulse buys.
