Olivia Kantyka is the latest person to join the growing LaunchByte team at our Boylston St. headquarters. Before stepping into her new role as Director of Growth, she was asked to compose a blog post answering the question “Why LaunchByte”? This is her answer, originally published on LaunchByte’s blog on July 5, 2017.

How did I get here, or more importantly, WHY? As a native New Yorker, I’ve had an affinity for working in a fast-paced environment. Whether it was running to catch the next train or pushing through the sidewalk crowds to get to work on time, New York made me rough around the edges. The urban lifestyle teaches you humility, posh, and most importantly, grit.

After being faced with the staggering question of what was I going to choose as my career path at the age of 21, I did what many other millennials did. Instead of entering the field of journalism as originally planned, I succumbed to the safety of choosing a profession that provided stability, prominence, and a set career path. Like many others, I packed my bags and moved from NYC to Boston to attend law school.

As I look back on my decision, I have no regrets. Law school taught me logic. It taught me strategic analysis, project management, and planning. I learned to work with people from various walks of life. Combine that with my background in writing and blogging, I ended up entering the field of legal marketing and business development. I carefully crafted and chiseled away at marketing and business development plans — ready to jump on an event, attend a vendor meeting, or make introductions with a high-level executive.

I’ve worked the corporate gamut and have seen the forces of millennial discourse. I knew that my next career decision needed to involve strategy and growth in a start-up environment. Living in Boston, I’ve read articles, attended events, and seen the spotlights of many budding entrepreneurs. There’s a constant energy, excitement, and creative spirit in which I wanted to take part.

Then came LaunchByte. LaunchByte, in essence, had the elements I was looking for: a company that was relatively new to the scene but had the years of experience in their founders to back-up every bit of advice that they gave. They aren’t afraid to test the limits in product development, design, marketing, and strategy and have a kickass team to prove their worth.

For me, development of growth starts with marketing. Combine that with branding, strategy, competitive intelligence analysis, business development coaching, employee retention and company culture and you’ll get a recipe for projected growth within a startup. By working holistically with brands, I’m excited to delve into the internal and external strategies to hit that next milestone. Let’s face it. It’s no longer just about KPI’s.

So where can you find me? You’ll likely find me some evenings at the local rock-climbing gym, kicking ass as a female climber. And if you travel internationally, you may find me climbing Mt. Fuji, walking the rivers and temples in Thailand, or trying obscure foods throughout Myanmar (all of which I’ve done and loved!). In all likelihood, you’ll find me typing away behind my laptop here in the heart of Boston’s LaunchByte office, helping companies grow, one brand at a time.
