Startup founders are constantly under pressure from their team and investors to show growth in tangible areas, which leaves little time to reflect on a startups culture or ethos.

However, faster technology or better employees aren’t always the answer as former LaunchByte CMO Will Pazos discovered in conversation with COO Anmol Wassan.

Will Pazos: “I was answering emails from some of our earlier stage startups and found myself making connections between founders that had found success and other that were still searching. I looked over to Anmol and asked ‘What makes a founder successful?’ to which he immediately responded, ‘The ability to learn’. He then took a second and said ‘Better yet, humility.’”

Anmol Wassan is a decorated entrepreneur with the successful exit of his company Vertify under his belt and years of consulting, deal-making, and strategy experience.

We asked Anmol to elaborate on the importance of humility and he offered some of his trademark wisdom:

“If most startups fail or pivot from their original idea to achieve success, the ability to recognize that your assumptions and ideas about the industry or your product or services’ value proposition may not be correct is probably a great measure of success. While there may still be a product/market fit issue after a pivot, you probably have a better chance of success rather than being bullheaded about your original assumptions.”

Humility for a startup leader also has many other intended or unintended outcomes. For example, a founder may find they’ve created a learning environment where the team is not afraid to try new things and everyone’s input is valued, which often leads to better, well thought out ideas.”

We at LaunchByte encourage readers to take a look at the culture inside their own businesses and let us know what has led to success and what hasn’t.
