In an effort to get started blogging I thought I would share some of the ways I try to stay up to date with the ever changing world of front end development.

1. Sign up to medium.com

Choose the topics you are interested in like Programming, JavaScript etc.. The articles vary in length and are really excellent for reading in spare moments on a daily basis.

2. Subscribe to newsletters, some examples are:

3. Watch You Tube Channels:

Fun Fun Function (This guy is excellent and really easy to watch.)

4. Attend conferences or alternatively watch the videos they post after.

React Amsterdam 2017
JSConf EU

5. Twitter

This is something someone recommended to me recently. After trying it it probably only works well if you are into twitter! If you don’t know who to follow here are some to start with @dan_abramov, @reactjs, @getify, @JavaScript, @kentcdodds, @mpjme, @cirpo etc.. And just look at who these people follow for more ideas.

6. Attend meetups

A great way to gain knowledge and also network. Some good active groups are ReactJS Girls and JS Monthly etc.

7. Read books

I’m not a big reader but a few I definitely recommend are:

The You Don’t Know JS series by Kyle Simpson. If you have just been getting by with JavaScript but don’t really know how it works these are the books to read. Not really for beginners though, my first attempt to read these failed. A few years later I tried again and was able to follow along.

And Clean Code by Robert C. Martin, every programmer should read this :)

8. GitHub Trending

This can be interesting — you can filter by JavaScript to keep it relevant

9. Listen to Podcasts

If you prefer listening to things syntax.fm is a cool Web Dev podcast 🎧 Although they can be a bit chatty at times.

That’s it! Hopefully you will find this useful. If you don’t have much time or just want to get to slowly get started, I would recommend just do 1. and 2. They are very easy to integrate into your daily routine and really help to provide knowledge and spark interest.

Would love to hear if you have any other ways of staying up to date.
