We had two goals for this hike: mouse traps and booze.

Russ and I spent last week out in the woods. And I don’t mean out at a popular campsite somewhere with countless other campers around. I mean out in the woods for real. It was only the two of us and all the supplies we needed in our jeep. If there was something we happened to forget, we were shit out of luck. That, or we had to drive the 30-something miles back into the nearest town.

No, this was not your typical glamping weekend. There were no bathrooms or showers. Nothing but a wood cabin 16 miles down a dirt road.

This is what Russ and I crave. It’s the only reason to live and our only motivation for working. Acres and acres of ponderosa pines, junipers, oaks, and stream beds to explore…. basically heaven in our eyes.

We slept the entirety of the week in Russ’s pop-up tent working outside on the deck of the cabin. Using Elon Musk’s satellite internet we worked remotely, living the new American dream.

It’s an indescribable feeling- being out in the woods, miles away from a town or cell service, yet still making money through the computer. The stresses of work dissipate into the cool mountain breeze and you are reminded of how unimportant the life you live back in the…
