A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about 3 of my goals for 2017 and alluded to a future post with more details. The first goal, to live above the wellness line, has become especially poignant over the past few weeks. Friends and mothers of friends are in various stages of being unwell. Very unwell. Daily, if not hourly, I continue to lift them up in prayer. My friend knows that God and her doctors have it under control, but she still wants to do her part to keep herself above the wellness line during her treatment. Healthy foods, quality rest, and a little Young Living oil have become a part of her daily life.

The quest for wellness looks different for every person. In our house, we do Young Living oils and Whole30-ish meals. I say Whole30ish, because we aren’t perfect and we LIKE those prohibited foods. We just avoid them most of the time. After two years of oils and one year of Whole30-ish eating (little-to-no grains, dairy, or sugar), my husband and I are collectively 70 pounds lighter and spend nearly zero time going to the doctor.

Disclaimer: I have been to the doctor once in the last year. I was dizzy due to the fact that I no longer needed blood pressure medicine! Losing a bunch of weight and staying healthy gets the credit!

Whole30-ish Food

For boring meals, we typically have a small piece of meat with over half of our plate filled with fruits and vegetables. For fun meals, we will have something like hot wings.

Laura’s Hot Wings

  • Chicken Wings
  • Coconut Oil
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Hot Sauce (I use Frank’s)
  • S&P
  • Parsley (optional)

Preheat the oven to 400. Line a pan with foil and lay out the wings so they don’t touch each other. Salt and pepper the wings and sprinkle with garlic powder. Put in the oven until the skin is crispy and the wings are cooked through. I don’t know how long, just watch them.

Meanwhile, melt 2 heaping serving spoonfuls of coconut oil in the microwave or on the stove. Add the garlic and onion powders (start with a little and taste it, add more if you like your wings more garlicky) Add the hot sauce, a little more than coconut oil. Mix to combine.

When the wings are crispy, add half the mixture to the wings and put back in the oven for a few minutes, until the sauce is bubbly. Take them out and glaze the wings with the rest of the sauce! You can sprinkle them with parsley, if you like the contrast in colors. We eat them with whatever raw fruit or vegetables we have at the time.
