Time

Time, you cannot harm me.

Though you may trace lines upon my face,
and turn my hair gray,
you cannot harm me.

Though you may steal my youth away,
adding up the years against me,
subtracting my strengths,
you cannot harm me.

Though you may darken the corners of my mind with forgetfulness,
and dim my senses,
and thin my hair,
you cannot harm me.

Though you may visit me with pain and sorrow,
and weaken this earthly shell,
and try to steal my joy,
you cannot harm me.

Even when you destroy this temporary residence,
turning it to ash and bone,
and my mortal journey ends,
you cannot harm me.

For I am more than the sum of days and nights.
My life is more than the numbered years along the path of this life.
For I am a living soul fashioned to inhabit eternity.

Yes, I am a spirit and the love and deeds
and passions that are a part of me will not pass away.
They will exist in the landscape of eternity.

One day time will cease to be,
and I will remain.
Time, you cannot harm me.
