I have been in the rescue since 2018 and I haven’t seen any shelter yet that euthanize dogs however most dog pounds run by the government do. Then the numbers of strays are still ramping. David and I has been talking and working on how do we get the government be involved in this so we have been talking about a no kill shelter instead of a dog pound and collaborate with LGU’s

So as a rescuer with lots of friends in the dog rescue world we should talk about it and open it up with the Local Government. Luckily for us one city vice mayor agreed to it. We will start from there and talk about how it works and maybe the Vice Mayor would also give us a response.

Ternate Vice Mayor was quick and he offered us a 1000sqm lot that is not in use for now to build my friend’s shelter. Here we will put up a system in the new shelter area for the dogs. The Shelter has more 250 dogs, so we will divide the dogs by block and sections. I will help Buhi Animal Welfare organize the daily tasks and feeding per block, being the reason is that it would be easy to monitor the health and welfare of each dogs.

Then we will be able to provide livelihood for the people of his city because we will hire people as caretakers for the New Shelter area. The proposed shelter area is near beach resorts so it would be an advantage for the rescue dogs since we can bring most of them in the beach for a walk. Good thing the resort owners and admins allow pets and dogs in the resort.

We come up with an idea of a no kill shelter because most of the dog pounds don’t really care about the dogs being surrendered to them and most of the time the dogs are starving and wasn’t given a chance to get rehome. Non government organizations like us would like to help stop this kind of cruelty and negligence so David gave the idea of collaborating with LGU’s that I opened up with other groups and they liked the idea

So the next day we had a contract signing together with the vice mayor and the lot owner.

the owner and paul who owns Buhi Shelter

Paul is just dismantling all the fences from the old shelter to transfer to the new area now. I am just excited on this project together with the LGU of that city and we will let the world know that it is possible for a no kill shelters and shut down dog pounds for life.
