Efforts by the operators of the Rio Theatre to purchase the building received a boost late Sunday night by Vancouver-born actor Ryan Reynolds, known for playing the titular character in the Deadpool movie franchise.

Reynolds tweeted a link to the Indiegogo crowdfunding page around 11:30 p.m., inviting others to donate:

“The Rio Theatre in Vancouver is legendary. Spoiler Alert: I plan to be buried there. #SaveTheRio You can help rescue this landmark of community and art by clicking:”

Rio Theatre replied to the tweet from their Twitter account, thanking him for responding “to weeks of Twitter harassment.” They posted a tweet with a message from Reynolds saying that he had made a donation.

Reynolds isn’t the first actor to support the theatre operator Corinne Lea’s bid to purchase the building; actor Kevin Smith is hosting a fundraiser later this month.

The Rio Theatre was recently listed for sale after changes were made to the property’s zoning. Owners are hoping to crowdfund $1.5 million, matched by $1.5 million from investors, for a down payment to purchase the theatre.
