It’s been a busy few weeks here at WSHQ as the summer season comes to a close… We’ve been finalising schedules, altering site set ups in time for winter & using up our holiday to get the last of the summer sun! A big shoutout to our neighbours, Tincan Coffee for keeping us refreshed with the best Iced Frappes in BS3!

It’s not only been bright outside, but inside too, as snazzy posters have been placed on the walls to remind us of our company values. Our values were created last year, as we decided as a team what Waste Source was all about. There were a few contenders, but four really stuck out to us: transparency, customer, development & social.

Our values have become second nature to us. Especially when it comes to being social. This summer, we’ve had lots of opportunities to do just that— and here are the highlights.

*drum roll please and in no particular order*

  1. Frankly, a pretty good start!

Frank Water kicked off the sunny season in April, when they held a Summer Party at Bambalan. The majority of us managed to go & the night was full of entertainment from local magicians, delicious moroccan food & a raffle to raise money for Frank! We had a great time meeting friends and supporters of the charity, what better way to start the Waste Source Summer? (You can read more about our relationship with Frank here).

2. We don’t like cricket, we love it….

Thurs 9 Aug we ventured to the Brightside Ground to watch Gloucester v whoevenknows. This social didn’t seem to excite everyone as much as the others; numbers were low but the LOLs were high. We couldn’t tell you the rules or who won, but we can definitely confirm that cricket is hilarious & the people in our stand loved shouting “ANNNNNDYYYYYYY” as strangers walked past, as we heavily awaited the arrival of Andy Lilley … (he never showed, and is still something we like to remind him of to this day).

3. SUP, wanna go Paddle-boarding?

Sunny Bristol is the best kinda Bristol, especially when you’re near the harbour! Heidi has become a paddle-boarding extraordinaire over the last couple of months with SUP Bristol & thought it was a great opportunity to show a few of us the ropes. We paddled our way under the Cumberland Basin and all the way back to the SS Great Britain. I think it’s fair to say that I was a very nervous member of the group and didn’t quite get to the standing pose, in fear of falling in... But the weather was sweet, and the evening was fab. We may not have all have shared the same ability, but we all agreed that paddle-boarding for 90 mins can be very tiring, so we happily ended the evening in our local Thali Cafe. Dreamy.

So there we have it, our sunny social highlights! Now, we will spend the next couple of months ordering endless ASOS jumpers & gearing up to the oh-so-popular Christmas party…
