Maybe it’s make believe

World famous brand Maybelline doesn’t seem to be living up to expectations lately…

So here’s the thing. Renowned make up brand Maybelline essentially claims that their makeup products are flawless, effortless and achieve fantastic results. Sounds great right? Therefore I decided to sample the products for myself to see if they lived up to expectations.

Dream Matte Mousse (£7.50) 2/10

This product promises to offer exceptional coverage at a low cost and also claims to be lightweight and long-lasting. Maybelline say “there’s nothing just like it,” and there’s a good reason for that… because it’s absolutely terrible. Unfortunately the ‘lightweight’ coverage proved to be the exact opposite as it left my skin feeling caky and uneven. It also creased after a while and went patchy, definitely not the look I wanted to achieve. Overall, the product was a bit of a let-down and I wouldn’t recommend it at all.

Super stay better skin concealer (£5.99) 0/10

Maybelline promise that with this concealer in just three weeks it will eliminate blemishes, spots and dark circles. Unfortunately, the true story was far from that. When applied to the face, the concealer, if anything, appeared to highlight the fact that I was wearing makeup and not conceal it. The whole point of a concealer is to hide those unwanted blemishes but instead made me more aware of them. After three weeks of use, the product had actually made my skin worse, bringing a glorious array of spots to the areas I had used it on. Definitely not worth the time, effort or money!

Colour show nail varnish (3.99) 8/10

Thankfully, a product worth purchasing! Unlike the other products, this one actually lived up to expectations — good job Maybelline. The applicator applied the varnish smoothly and dried incredibly fast. In terms of colour, it was very shiny and made my nails feel pretty and polished, exactly what I want from a nail varnish. The only downside is that it did begin to chip after a couple of days, so I recommend on applying two coats to avoid this, but overall a great product at an affordable price.

So there we have it, in some areas of the makeup industry I feel that Maybelline portray their facial products unrealistically, leading to disappointing results. However, in terms of nail products they really do live up to expectations and are worth checking out. So a big thumbs up for Maybelline nail products and I recommend looking elsewhere for foundation as you definitely do not achieve the ‘maybe she’s born with it’ look.
