What can you do, as a preservice and beginning teacher, to challenge the traditional education assessment paradigm?
As a preservice teacher it would be wise to start thinking about strategies to assess student knowledge, without requiring a paper test.
Standardised tests commonly cause a great amount of stress and anxiety. Assessing students through observation, projects and class work is preferred as the student can relax.
Traditional education assessment can be challenged through strategies such as Project Based Learning. By integrating technology into learning it increases student interest and attention. Allowing the students to take charge of their learning gives them the independence, freedom and confidence they need. Creating videos, models, and using technology provides a hands on approach that makes learning more interesting and fun.
