Chief Commercial Officer, Canada
Paul Welsh serves as Chief Commercial Officer for Edelman Canada, working directly with the Canadian Leadership Team to plan and execute strategic projects core to the company’s growth across the country. Paul investigates new areas of business for the company and assists in business development, looks at merger and acquisition opportunities for the offices, and leads or assists on large national business pitches. He is based in Vancouver.
During more than 18 years as co-general manager of Edelman’s Vancouver office, Welsh led the transformation of the office from a four-person research and public relations firm into a 45-plus person integrated communications company. He was instrumental in orchestrating the deal that saw Edelman acquire Karyo Communications in 2007 — the firm he co-owned with Patti Schom-Moffatt.
Welsh’s strategic communications, media relations and client service experience is extensive. He has led Edelman’s work for Canadian Pacific, Shell Canada, GE, the Vancouver Airport Authority, the Rick Hansen Foundation, the City of Vancouver, Powerex and many more.
For a six-year period he was part of Edelman’s global Olympic network and led the company’s outreach and efforts on the ground in Vancouver in the run up to and during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, for clients including GE, Petro-Canada and the Hudson’s Bay Company. Prior to his move to Vancouver, he worked in communications roles for the University of Regina, SaskEnergy (Saskatchewan’s natural gas utility) and SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance).
Welsh has been recognized by Business in Vancouver as one of the top “40 under 40” business leaders to watch in Vancouver. He holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Regina and pursued graduate studies in English Literature at the University of Victoria.
