I’ve actually heard and have close friends and mentors would vow, as UX leaders, they should own Product and expand across the entire business, arguing they should own all things “experience”, from Design to Product to Brand and Strategy, sans Finance and Legal.

I’ve seen lots of efforts to squeeze out Product similar to how Business Analysts and Project Managers were being absorbed (read: eliminated) by other functions through the 2000s.

Product has slowly matured but we need more Meetups and Conferences distinct from Design, Data, Growth and Engineering. Yes, they all exist but they’re few and pretty rare. My Design, Growth and Engineering mentors outnumber my Product ones. This is still a sore spot for growing the Product profession.
